Q: What is the role of a finance director? Is it worth appointing one or should I avoid it and save costs?

A finance director will create focus on the financial position of your business. They should provide historical analysis and future projections and should oversee any other staff with a financial role such as a credit controller or bookkeeper.
A full time Finance Director can be an expensive option for a flegling business and other alternatives could include using a good accountancy firm to act as a Financial Director. That way you only pay them for the time you need.
You could also use other sources such as a finance broker to ensure you find the most suitable sort of finance at competitive rates.
