Q: I am part of a sales team and use my computer all day. I had glasses before I went to the company, but feel my eyesight has deteriorated since. Does my employer have to pay for an eye test and can I charge them for any treatment?

Under the health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, an employer has a duty to provide employees using display screen equipment for more than one hour a day with an eye examination to be carried out by a qualified professional and to be paid for by the employer. So I suggest that you ask your manager if there is a company procedure in place that you can follow. Otherwise you can suggest that your manager checks out the company’s obligations.
