Employees urged to make small changes for the environment

Small business can become more energy efficient by making 'very simple' changes, an expert claims.
Turning off lights overnight or changing the type of light bulbs used in an office can make a big difference, says Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at npower.
He explains: 'What we find in the small business sector is that there are a lot of simple quick things that people can do for themselves that don't actually incur any costs at all.'
According to the power company, leaving on office equipment such as computers uses up 'a considerable amount of energy'.
If employees are unable to shut down computers overnight, they should make sure that monitors are switched off, Mr McGloin adds.
He advises firms to take steps such as cleaning filters on refrigerators and condensers, which he says can make a significant difference to fuel bills.
According to a survey conducted by the power company, 57 per cent of employees believe their firms waste energy and a quarter say it is difficult to encourage staff to make changes.
