There are 100+ marketing channels that are effectiveley free and many more very low cost ways of marketing your business very effectively. You need to market your business at all times but beware of putting all your eggs in one basket and of using any form of marketing just because everyone else is using it. Marketing is the 'What' and the 'How' to build your business. Yet, it is exactly the 'What' and the 'How' that many business owners and executives do not truly understand.

First, there is confusion between marketing and sales. This confusion is probably the first obstacle to achieving the goal to increase sales.

Next, since the "What' is not known, limited resources are then spent on activities that are not aligned to the strategic plan or business action plan. The business owner or executive becomes disgusted and then starts to believe that the 'How' of marketing is not worth the effort.

If there is any confusion about the difference between sales and marketing, there's a useful answer here in the Q&A forum. It's called Sales and marketing defined.
