If you have used the internet or other information and communications technologies (ICT) to transform your business, then you could win thousands of pounds in cash prizes, with the official launch of this yearÂ’s E-Commerce Awards.

Now in its sixth year, the awards have a total prize fund of just over £200,000, with the overall national winner claiming a top prize of up to £40,000. The awards are a joint initiative between the Department of Trade and Industry and not-for-profit campaign group InterForum.

“The E-Commerce Awards are the opportunity to showcase best practice in the innovative and effective use of e-commerce among UK organisations that are using ICT to improve efficiency, productivity and competitiveness as part of their overall business strategy,” commented Stephen Timms, minister of state for energy, e-commerce and postal services.

The awards are open to UK businesses, public bodies, charities and not-for-profit organisations based in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man with fewer than 250 employees. Categories, which include e-business start-up, e-business, e-trading, best use of broadband and best use of teleworking, will be judged across 12 regions. Winners of these heats stand to win cash prizes worth a total of £120,000.

In addition, national awards are available in the following categories, each competing for a prize worth £8,000: mobile and wireless technology, advanced supply chain integration and best rural e-business and community.

The awards are free to enter, and applications can be done online at www.ecommerce-awards.co.uk. Visit the site for more details on eligibility and awards categories. The closing date for all applications is 30 July 2004.
