International Women’s Day: JK Rowling most admired British businesswoman

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has topped the list of most admired British women in business, with more than a third of respondents (35.6 per cent) saying they admire her most.

The Body Shop founder Anita Roddick and West Ham vice-chairman Baroness Karren Brady make up the top three, in a survey conducted by small business marketing materials provider Vistaprint.

Victoria Beckman is in position six (9.0 per cent), while Katie Price takes position nine (3.6 per cent) – one above Hilary Devey.

However, the results also expose that a mere one in five (22.0 per cents) of Britons can correctly identify some of the world’s most renowned female corporate leaders, such as Meg Whitman, Melinda Gates and Sheryl Sandberg. Anita Roddick is the most recognisable business woman amongst Britons, with just over half (54.4 per cent) being able to identify her from a picture.

The survey explores the UK public’s recognition of influential business women on International Women’s Day.

Vistaprint asked respondents to identify images of both acclaimed men and women in business; and the results showed that Brits are almost three times more likely to recognise famous business men (60.7 per cent) than women (22.0 per cent).

Recognising the leading women in business

Oliver Harcourt, Vistaprint UK manager says, ‘On International Women’s Day we want to shine a light on all the dedicated and inspirational women in business. From those running small businesses, working at the heart of their communities, like our customers, to those heading up multinational corporations.

‘Let’s give all women in business the appreciation they deserve and celebrate the incredible contribution they make.’

Anita Roddick is the UK’s most recognisable woman in business, with 54.4 per cent of respondents correctly identifying her.
