Entrepreneur Q&A: Andrea Guzzoni of Rentuu equipment supply

Online equipment rental accounts for just 0.05 per cent of market share, with the majority of firms existing offline. Andrea Guzzoni talks about challenging this bygone business model with his rental website, Rentuu.

What inspired Rentuu?

I worked in tech for the last five years and I’ve successfully managed and launched operations working under large corporations.

The idea of an online rental service was sparked when I was working with booking and events platforms. Particularly when I worked in hospitality, I realised that a lot of places needed to hire rental items, but it was difficult for them as no system was in place for doing so.

There was no centralised way of keeping track of products, prices and supplier information while sourcing equipment and furniture for the business.

I then created a spreadsheet as a method of keeping this information organised. I turned the spreadsheet into a software now known as Rentuu to support these type of operations and streamline them.

It was clear to me that absolutely nothing had been done to make the lives of event planners and operational business teams easier in sourcing products for corporate events or short time frames where purchasing wasn’t an option.

To help them out, we provide multiple quotes and a single invoice using multiple suppliers.

What would you say is your USP?

Our unique selling point is that we operate in rental equipment lacking in technology.

The use of our technology supports other businesses and suppliers as well as improving operations and marketing within the industry.

How have sales and revenue been doing?

It has been very exciting, but a lot of work. We’ve been distributing all over various cities and gaining more business as well as getting good results in the Irish market where we have recently expanded to.

How did you manage to build trust with your suppliers?

At Rentuu we are a curated company so we are always checking on suppliers to ensure that we are offering the best software service and support.

We streamline operations, providing them with a fair pricing model, the use of analytics and data software to provide businesses with real-time market research and trends as well as helping them expand their business and highlight key supply and demand data.

What are your goals for the company?

We have a very ambitious team whose dedication and drive has recently allowed us to launch into Ireland.

One of our main goals is to launch internationally and into Europe with plans to also expand into the Netherlands at the end of the year. On top of this, we will continue to support the industry by launching a new product every two months.

Any advice for small businesses or aspiring entrepreneurs?

The most important thing is to find the right team. You need to surround yourself with a group of people who share the same vision as you. Business can be challenging and difficult so just make sure you build that effective team.
