Open courses on running a business

I'm currently employed with a good salary. However, like a lot of others I long to be my own master. To this end, I'd like to learn about the 'hard facts' of running a business before falling victim to 'rose coloured spectacle' syndrome.

Unfortunately, at this stage I’m not able to commit too much financially but am keen enough to invest time and effort etc. Are there any ‘open’ courses available that might meet my needs?

You’re certainly not alone. Research conducted recently by Business Link for London shows that two thirds of London commuters saw themselves as entrepreneurs of the future, with 38 per cent keen to start their own business within the next two years (Business Link for London, November 2006).

Starting your own business can be one of the most rewarding ventures you ever undertake. However planning, research and budgeting are crucial to ensure business success and so by doing the ground work now you are certainly putting yourself in a much better place for when you are ready to launch your new business venture.

There are extensive event programmes including workshops for start up and established businesses as well as networking events throughout the UK which could help you develop that all important web of contacts.

On our site we do have a Start a New Business section, which provides a step-by-step guide to launching a company.
